Supporting Kurdistan

In 2016, FAI began supporting the Kurdish Peshmerga during their fight against ISIS. At that time the Peshmerga had very few qualified medics within their units. FAI coordinated with the Peshmerga to establish a forward Casualty Collection Point where FAI staff could quickly treat wounded Peshmerga and civilians.

From that time FAI has continually maintained medical staff in the Kurdish region to support the Kurdish people in various ways. Currently FAI is partnered with the Ministry of Health to support their work in clinics in the Soran and Dohuk Regions. It is an honor to serve alongside Kurdish Medical staff and learn together how to more effectively serve the Kurdish population in these areas.

Who do we help?

The clinics we work in are located in the border areas of the Kurdish region. These clinics typically don’t receive as much support from the Kurdish Government. We have partnered with the director of health in these border areas to bolster the work of the existing Kurdish medical staff.

The patients in these small villages often do not have sufficient transportation to visit hospitals in the larger cities. We are able to provide higher level of care like trauma and specialty care closer to where these people live.
