Land Mine Removal

Between 1961 and 2003 more than 7 million land mines were laid throughout the Kurdish region of Iraq. More than 2 million mines and unexploded ordinance still remain. These devices are only found one of two ways: By a de-miner who works to find them or by a villager who doesn’t see it before stepping on it.

Medical Relief

In 2016, FAI began supporting the Kurdish Peshmerga during their fight against ISIS by providing trauma care at the front lines. From that time FAI has continually maintained medical staff in the Kurdish region to support the Kurdish people in underserved parts of the region.

Prosthetics Project

FAI has partnered with the Diana Prosthetics Center to help provide prosthetics and rehabilitation to those who have lost limbs or suffered traumatic injury from accidents with landmines or conflict in the region.

Medical Education

FAI is partnered with the Dohuk Medical training school and provides supplemental advanced education in the form of hands on emergency and trauma training for graduating students.
